Japanese culture kit / JONES, Chieko & JONES, Colin W.
810. 7PR JON
The association of Independent Schools of New South Wales, ISBN: 095871259x
This teaching aid is designed for the Japanese-language classroom at primary and junior secondary levels, with cultural content covering everyday Japanese life and seasonal festivities.
14 sheets of A3 size posters illustrate seasonal festivities for each month (January and December each have two posters). On the back of the posters are notes about events and public holidays through the month, including their historical origins.
Twelve A4 size topic folders refer to everyday Japanese life such as geography, houses and foods in Japan as well as those seasonal events. Also included in the folders are ready-to-use teaching ideas such as stories to read to children, paper craft activity plans and Japanese vocabulary lists.
This kit significantly helps teachers for two reasons: firstly, the explanation in the cultural contents are well researched and described simply so that children can understand them, and secondly, the most frequently used topics in primaryjunior level language class are compiled in the set so that teachers need not prepare these topic-based class plans every time.
This material was published with the aid of the Japan Foundation’s “Assistance Program for Japanese-Language
Teaching Materials”.

in user's guide
This is a board game for 2 to 5 players using their knowledge of Japanese language and culture.
The basic rules are like a combination of Snakes & Ladders and Trivia.
Players roll a die and draw a card each time, and then have to answer a quiz or follow the instructions on the card. A correct answer on the quiz also advances the player’s marker.
This game can be adapted for learners at any level by using your original quiz/task cards. The User’s Guide advises that playing time for one game is considered to be between 15 and 20 minutes.
