Lots
of ready to use fun activities for primary level students are introduced
in this book. Several activities under each of the 11 categories are
prepared for students of different levels, which cover topics such
as the Geography of Japan, Customs and Sports. All pages from this
book can be used as information and activity hand-out sheets to students,
as they are all presented in English and Romaji except for some Hiragana
introduction. Seasonal Japanese Festivals throughout the year such
as New Year, Children’s day and Christmas take many pages in
the last chapter of this book, including some colouring sheets and
Romanised children songs, which are suitable for lower level students.

A
language textbook series written for beginner adult learners of Japanese,
adopting the format of the previous publication “新日本語の基礎
”, the series has 2 editions (Kanji-Kana and Romaji) and other
publications of Translation/ Explanatory notes in various languages.
While often used vocabularies and expressions suited for Technical
Trainees from overseas, more common expressions based on Japanese
social life are adopted in みんなの日本語初級
with the same structure and order of studying items as 新日本語の基礎.
In the beginning of each lesson, new sentence structures are introduced
then sample sentences using the structures, followed by a conversation,
where students try to build up their own expressions by practicing
drill works and questions. Dictation and reading comprehension are
also tasked in a questionnaire to support listening and reading skills.
初級
2 series with the same components are also available at the library. |

Originally
designed for foreign children who live in Japan and are in need of
Japanese language support at their primary schools. The contexts from
each lesson follow school life at a Japanese primary school, and eliminate
any topics that require higher math and social study knowledge. Although
Hiragana is used from the beginning of volume 1, the number of Kanji
used in the textbook is limited to 80 = Japanese primary year 1 equivalent
in volume 1 and another 160 = year 2 in equivalent volume 2. Glossary
is available with translation in three languages (English, Portuguese
and Chinese) and a Teacher’s manual in Japanese is printed separately. |

JNTO
is a Japanese governmental body established to further international
exchange through tourism. JNTO has produced a semi promotional-documentary
video program about a school trip to Japan. The video camera follows
a small high school group from Australia which explores Japan and
its culture. They travel to Kusatsu hot spa resort, Tokyo and Kansai
area, and have some interesting Do It Yourself cultural experiences
such as exploring Akihabara electrical shops and Making your own Okonomiyaki
at a restaurant in Osaka. The scenes from this video are very new
and good to show students both traditional and hi-tech scenes from
Japan in a short time frame. A CD-ROM version of the program recorded
in Windows/Mac movie files is also available from the library for
loan (call number for CD-ROM is 374.46 JNT) |
