In February, the SLC sent out its 2003 school update forms and teaching material donation request forms to more than 2000 schools in its database. However, only 539 schools have returned their forms to the SLC as of April 30th. If you have not yet sent them in, please check our website: www.jpf.org.au and do so now, otherwise you will not be eligible to request donation materials for your school.
Teachers who requested any donation materials should receive them by the end of June. Some Activity Resources are also available on our website. Please take the time to browse through the teaching ideas provided by some teachers who have attended seminars here at the SLC.

Last year in mid-December, His Imperial Highness Crown Prince Naruhito (皇太子様) and Her Imperial Highness Crown Princess Masako (雅子様) visited Sydney and Canberra in Australia, and New Zealand as part of an official weeklong visit.

In Sydney,
皇太子様 and 雅子様 visited Northbridge Primary School to observe a Japanese language class, team-taught by Ms Yukari Doi and Mr Takashi Ogawa. The photos show how their Imperial Highnesses enjoyed speaking to the students, who presented them with a bouquet and a small toy wombat for their daughter, Princess Aiko. The visit became a day to remember for all students at Northbridge Primary School.

My name is Kazuko Nagai. I have been working as the Japanese language advisor for Western Australia since April. In 2000, when I was in Surabaya, Indonesia, I travelled to Perth and was very impressed by its beauty.
Ever since, I had been hoping to visit the place again. Now my dream has come true. I am very happy to work with you here in Western Australia. I am eager to learn about your customs and ways of living and I would particularly appreciate it if someone would show me a nice spot to paint, as my hobby is watercolour painting.

はじめまして

The changing of the seasons in Japan brings colourful plum and cherry blossoms. Here in Australia, it brings a new editor. I have recently returned from working in the Japanese countryside, where I was able to put into practice the language skills which I acquired through Japanese study at high school and university in Australia. Having been a student of Japanese language teachers such as yourselves, I am now very pleased to be working with you to further Japanese language education amongst the students of today.
I do hope that you will find some value in every issue of Dear Sensei. If you have any suggestions or contributions, please feel free to contact me through the Sydney Language Centre.

みなさま、どうぞよろしくおねがいします。
